An All Star Deck Review : Liwat

Liwat (リワト) is the one and only three-coloured LRIG to exist in the WIXOSS trading card game and she was introduced in WX-21 Betrayed Selector, sharing the Tawil (タウィル) LRIG type with her predecessor, Tawil. Upon being introduced in WX-21, Liwat dominated the Japanese meta game until recent times with more support being introduced in the following booster WX-22, which further strengthened her place in the current meta.

Liwat uses 'Image Spirit: Angel' as her main SIGNI class and her play-style revolves around manipulating different coloured 'Angel' SIGNIs on her field, ener zone and trash to gain card advantage and manipulate (read as destroy) opponent resources. Due to her strict play-style requirements to focus on 'Angel' SIGNI to make plays, her decks are relatively consistent and similar across different players due to the little to no deck space for 'tech' cards to be played. This also result in her playing fewer 'Servants' to defend against LRIG attacks, making her suspectible to decks that are more LRIG-centric in their play-style. This makes Liwat very unforgiving to misplays and challenges the deck user to be able to manage their own ener zone filled with different colour. Liwat isn't one of the most beginner friendly deck around, however, she is very strong in the right hands and has a very high skill-ceiling.

Let's dig into several decklists from the Japanese meta game :

Starting from the LRIG Deck, Liwat plays a wide array of different coloured ARTS due to her main deck consisting of a variety of different coloured 'Angel' SIGNIs. Most Liwat decks run a similar ARTS line-up of Sea and Sky Becoming One Blue, Dark Cognate and Grand Cross as their staple ARTS.

The other ARTS choices can be filled with tech ARTS such as Anti-Ability or Spirit Salvage to re-use one of the ARTS listed above.

Anti-Ability may be one of the best ARTS currently to exist in the current meta game as it stops combo decks and OTK turns for a very cheap 1 blue ener cost. However, for non-competitive players, this option may not be for you as it can be very taxing on your wallet.

Moving on to the LRIG herself, I shall introduce you, Liwat=Fyra, her 'Auto' skill consists of a removal and card advantage engine at the start of either player's Attack Phase and an 'Exceed' ability which allows the player to call an 'Angel' SIGNI from his deck.

Her lower level LRIGs also have an alternative grow cost allowing her to grow by discarding 'Angel' SIGNIs from their hand in addition to having a standard LRIG limit usually common to 'vanilla' LRIGs. This allows her to be practically impossible to be 'ener starved', which is a strategy to avoid attacking the opponent's SIGNIs or life cloths at all cost to maintain an ener advantage and the ability to grow to their highest level LRIG before their opponent to gain a 'tempo' advantage.

Then, let's disect into her main deck deeper, from what we know is that she focuses on her colourful angels to gain card advantage or destroy her opponent resources.

Early Game :

Liwat isn't the fastest deck around, so her early game revolves around gaining resources and fending off opponent's aggresive early game SIGNIs. Since both her level 1 SIGNIs are so good at generating card advantage, expect your opponent to immediately remove them through SIGNI effects or by battle, so as the Liwat player, we should play around this fact and try our best to replenish our early game field.

Late Game :

The main boss SIGNIs of the deck are the first three SIGNIs shown below :

The green SIGNI, 'Freyjn', is one of the most hated card in the current WIXOSS meta game. Her 'On-play' skill allows you to reveal the two top cards of your deck and put them into the ener zone if they are 'Angel' SIGNIs. Her 'Action' skill is probably what makes Liwat so strong right now, it allows you to put a Red, Blue, Green 'Angel' SIGNI from your own ener zone back to your deck and shuffles them in return for shuffling an opponent's SIGNI on their field, a card in their ener zone and a card in their trash back to the bottom of their deck. Do this a number of times and your opponent would be left with insufficient ener to defend their life from your 'Angel' SIGNIs.

The blue SIGNI, 'Poseidona', is the main toolbox of the deck and also the meat wall preventing your opponent from efficiently removing your field. Her 'On-play' ability puts two different coloured 'Angel' SIGNIs from your trash underneath her and the 'Constant' effect allows her to gain the ability of the 'Angel' SIGNIs underneath her.

These three 'Angel' SIGNIs are the most used for 'Poseidona' ability. They allow her to gain immunity to SIGNI's effect, a 'negate' banish skill and an action ability during the Attack Phase to banish an opponent SIGNI by removing two cards underneath her.

Lastly, the last Red 'Angel' SIGNI, 'Apolloshin', is a beatstick that banishes an opponent SIGNI when she comes on play and pumps power to all 'Angel' SIGNIs on the field by 2000. Not only that, her strongest ability may be her immunity to be downed by opponent's effect, causing your opponent's ARTS to not be able to block her attack and finally dealing that last needed damage to win the game. She also punishes the opponent for trying to remove her from the field by banishing an opponent signi that has a lower power than her if she is banished. This means that she is able to remove an opponent's level 4 SIGNI since her power is 14000 due to her first 'Constant' ability. The introduction of this SIGNI in WX-22 may be what makes Liwat so dominant today in the meta.

To close this deck review, while Liwat may not be the easiest deck to start with, I'm sure through reading this blog review, you would be one step closer to mastering her and crushing every deck you meet during tournament play or even casual play.
