Wixoss Ceremony 23/06/18

Hello Readers, I am Rikabuto, and I will be talking about a Wixoss All-Stars event that I participated in on the 23 of June 2018. The significance of this Wixoss event is that it was the first unlimited format (All Stars) that featured a significantly good first and second prize; A limited edition print of Piruluk and Layla Wedding Congrats cards that is valued at 29800 and 19800 Yen on bigweb respectively at the time of print. As a result, there is a good turnout for this event, ranging from the people that are long time veterans to the new players that have just joined the Wixoss community a few months ago.

The format is a single elimination, with random seeding. Although single elimination is not the recommended competitive format, due to luck of the draw from the random seeding, it is the more popular and widely adopted format. It is a more practical format for the organizers to deal with as it requires less time for the event to be completed (mostly within a day).

There is a wide variety of decks used in this tournament. It ranges from the commonly perceived OP Liwat 4 (Piloted by Stephen), to the hyper aggressive Yuzuki 3 (Piloted by Ivan). Below is an interview that I conducted with Ivan, about the yuzuki3 deck which I perceive as both interesting and potent.

Player Profile: Ivan Waifu: Yuzuki Deck used: Yuzuki 3

Ivan: I like Yuzuki, as she is my Waifu, and I have been using her for a long time.

Me: I have seen you using the Yuzuki 5 variant. Why did you use Yuzuki 3 today?

Ivan: Yuzuki 3 is more stable than the Yuzuki 5 variant, and she is more aggressive. Yuzuki 5 also falls victim to powercreep and hence isn't as viable as before, as she is too slow compared to other decks.

Me: Do you mind if you show your deck list to the readers?

Ivan: The idea is simple: Bolshack is a very powerful level 3 Signi. Once Yuzuki hits 3, she is able to output consistent damage against her opponent and threaten for game. Me: What about your arts? Could you give a little Insight to the choice?

Ivan: Double Chakram is used if your opponent is also an aggro player. Also, the option to put 3 cards under your LRIG to the trash for an encore is useful as well. Dual Stationery is also used against aggro players because you can use it to negate double crushes or to stop one of your opponent's attacks. PS: The other staple arts are Lace Tornado, Dragon Extinguishing Chain (DEC) and Innocent Defence, Me: Do you play Key format? Or do you stick to the All-Stars format? Ivan: No. I do play Key format. I am playing Guzuko as Yuzuki is not out in Key Format yet.

Me: Any new tips for the new players? Would you recommend this deck to new players?

Ivan: This deck is highly technical, and a single mistake can lead to you losing too much tempo to secure the game. For easier decks, I prefer you try Aiyai 3 or Guzuko 5. They are less punishing decks for new players.

Me: Thank you for your interview, good luck to you.

Returning to the tournament, due to the random seeding, favourites are knocked out in the first and second round. As a result, this is the top 6 lineup:

Bottom Left: Ivan (Yuzuki 3) Middle Left: Raphael (Mirunrun) Top Left: Kenneth (Midoriko4) Bottom Right: Adrian (Yuzuki2), also our beloved Jiinoo <3 Middle Right: Weiheng (Ril5) Top Right: Ulith 4 Player

In the end, Midoriko 4, Ril 5, Yuzuki 2 won their respective matches. Ivan, the Mirurun Player and the Ulith 4 player are left to draw lots for the last slot in top4 (Wild card slot). Ivan looked at me and asked how he is supposed to counter the spell-crazy (Gunshot) Yuzuki 2, piloted by Adrian, that he has no response to. Ivan won his slot, and like a reborn phoenix, he got a second chance in getting his beloved prize card:

For top4 pairings, Kenneth is paired against Adrian and Ivan is paired against Weiheng. Adrian's killing spree ended in the hands of Kenneth’s infinite To’ons and Ivan landed a convincing win against that Weiheng.

For the Finals, we enjoy an anti-climactic final match in which Kenneth continued the Midoriko loop (For one hour and forty-five minutes).

No points for those guessing who won the match. It is literally impossible for Ivan to smash through the 3 To'ons in life cloth as Yuzuki3, in which Kenneth has painstakingly spent most of his time looping and rigging. Meanwhile, the audiences are kinda of...asleep. If you want to know how the Loop works, you can watch it in action on our youtube channel @SG Wixoss.

Here is Kenneth's Midoriko 4 Decklist:

Congratulations to the two winners:

Last but not least, we would like to thank everyone for coming down to support this event, and Genesis Frontier for being such a good host. I hope to see you guys again for the next Wixoss All-Stars Event.
